Brian Ferguson and a couple of West Texas companies just bought a 7% stake in AH Belo shares. These are the guys who negotiated to buy Rocky Mtn News, but didn't close the deal.

ReplyDeleteWho exactly is Brian Ferguson?
ReplyDeleteHeck, I've considered buying a hundred or so shares of Belo myself right now. It's dirt cheap.
ReplyDeleteI was told that a family member wanted to divest shares.
ReplyDeleteBackground on Ferguson...

Has anyone else heard the speculation that FWST is dropping print entirely? The print newspaper will cease to exist, but it will continue the web presence?
ReplyDeleteNewbie media owners, despite all their enthusiasm and respect for what we do, have not done well unfortunately. The ownership change has been nothing more than shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
ReplyDeleteLook at what happened to the private owners in Philadelphia and Minneapolis, both of which are now in bankruptcy. Everyone knows about Sam Zell and the Tribune company. Similar results for the Knight-Ridder papers now controlled by McClatchy, including our friends in Fort Worth.
Unless Ferguson has a specific strategy for a new business model that he can convince Belo heirs Decherd and Moroney to adopt, then his stock buys are only temporary relief from a yearlong price plunge.
Hopefully Ferguson can prove me wrong.
Wow a week has gone by and no more postings....Sheesh. And we call ourselves journalists? Oh well, hang in there. We got our backs.
