This week? Next week? Next month? Bermuda? Puerto Rico? Minor trim or bloodbath? At this point I trust none of them. I would be very surprised if there was no truth to the basic line that layoffs are coming. The rest of the chatter is all over the map, so to speak.
It's coming. Managers are acknowledging something major is in the works. We just don't know what. My bet is it's not unprecedented expansion.
ReplyDeleteThe hurricane map is an apt comparison. But there's usually no doubt that a hurricane will form; normally the lack of consensus is where it will land.
ReplyDeleteRight now the red cone of disaster is pointed over the sports and news production desks. But there will be localized flooding and waterspouts on both sides of where the storm comes ashore.
The one consistent aspect has been management's ability to keep this locked down. There are very few people "in the know" right now, and given the likelihood of the impact of the cuts, word eventually will leak out because of the necessity to widen the circle to those who will map the new workflow.
And don't be shocked to see those left behind take another pay cut, as well.
Or furlough days.
ReplyDeleteAnd, with September about to start, don't assume that the schedule you're given is the real schedule. There's already a "real" one ready for your new-look department.

ReplyDeleteThe 4:24 a.m. ravings should be removed for being wildly off-topic ax-grinding. The post is nothing but typical weird creepiness from a disturbed former employee who was terminated for cause, not as part of any RIF.
ReplyDeleteYes I should have kept that one off. Not because of who it might be from but because it broke my rule of not allowing comments to name others. That one was mostly goofy. I am mostly willing to allow goofy comments. That one, however, went a bit beyond. I will be more careful.
ReplyDeleteA source on the first floor reports that layoffs are happening down there as I type this comment.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have details on the marketing/advertising cuts that apparently already took place today 8/25?
ReplyDeleteCuts were made this morning in marketing, ad art and sales. About 8 so far.
ReplyDeleteLayoffs include sales account executives and at least one executive assistant
